Aluminum Cylinders with Cast Iron Liners
Liners are centrifugally cast for a better microstructure than the original cylinders. They have a groove with a split ring at the case end and a step at the head end. The aluminum cylinder with cooling fins is slipped over the liner between the two. The cast iron liner is clamped between the case and the cylinder and expands at the same rate as the head bolts.
The aluminum cylinder with the cooling fins is free to expand at operating temperature.
